CME modules cover drug misuse, smoking cessation

Two new online modules from the AMA, part of its Educating Physicians on Controversies and Challenges in Health series, are available for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.

The first, entitled "Prevention of Prescription Drug Misuse and Diversion," offers tips for physicians on how they can help their patients avoid prescription drug diversion, identifies strategies to prevent the use by others and describes general advice for medication safety and maintenance.

"Smoking Cessation in Special Populations," the second of the two modules, provides an overview of the myths associated with smoking cessation in individuals with a mental illness or substance use disorder and provides counseling tips and actionable strategies for physicians to use in their practices.

The American Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The American Medical Association designates this enduring material for a maximum of .5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
