UMA Policy on Osteopathic and Allopathic Physician Non-Discrimination

The Utah Medical Association (UMA) believes that osteopathic and allopathic physicians are equivalently trained and should be treated equally.  No physician or student should be discriminated against in any way simply based on being an osteopathic or allopathic physician or student.  This includes discrimination by health or education systems, physician practices, clinics, or any other employer.

UMA Policy Statement Against Racism and Discrimination

The Utah Medical Association (UMA) affirms the AMA statement on violence and racism, and we add our voice to theirs:

  • The UMA joins the AMA in recognizing that racism in its systemic, structural, institutional, and interpersonal forms is an urgent threat to public health, the advancement of health equity, and a barrier to excellence in the delivery of medical care.
  • The UMA joins the AMA in opposing all forms of racism.
  • The UMA joins the AMA in denouncing policy brutality and all forms of racially motivated violence.
  • The UMA, along with the AMA, will actively work to dismantle racist and discriminatory policies and practices across all of health care.
