Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Section

The DEI Section is a component society composed entirely of minority and ally physicians dedicated to giving voices to and advocates for issues that impact minority physicians and medical students. The Board of Directors will govern with an emphasis on (1) outward vision, (2) encouragement of diversity in viewpoints, (3) strategic leadership, and (4) proactive visioning.

Join the DEI Section to have your voice heard, and strive to improve medical education, public health, diversity, leadership development, and advocating for the future of medicine.

Commitment is a nominal for section activity, which can be done electronically or online to gather input on issues to communicate to the UMA leadership. Once leaders are confirmed, will plan meetings (online or in person) and a section event for DEI members. Interested in a position and leadership development? DEI Section Socials

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Section members, partners and families enjoyed a fun-filled evening of community and fostering connection in June 2023. A dinner social at Tanner Park in Salt Lake City offered a perfect setting despite the wind for those in attendance along with UMA Staff. The social provided an opportunity for members to engage with one another, exchange ideas, and celebrate the richness of our diverse community. "It was a great success, thanks to the efforts of DEI Section Chair Franz Monroy, MD and Kelly Livingston," said Michelle McOmber, UMA CEO.

Stay tuned for future DEI events, as we continue to provide diversity, equity, and inclusion within our association. Together, we can build a stronger and more inclusive community where everyone feels valued and respected.
